We often travel I-81 and find ourselves stopping over near Harrisburg, where it’s hard to find restaurants outside the usual national chain suspects. This was a great find on rte 22, east of Harrisburg proper, 2 miles from the Progress Ave. exit on I-81. We arrived on Sunday night to find a buffet for $11 or order a la carte. We chose the buffet so as to try a greater variety of dishes. I don’t usually enjoy buffets where the food sits on steam tables and gets dried out or tough, but these dishes were mostly fresh and very tasty. The pakora as appetizers had been sitting too long and were limp on the outside. The paneer (cheese and peas in a spicy sauce), the goat curry, the tandoori chicken, and the nan (bread brought fresh from the kitchen) were very good. The chicken tikka masala was in a mild yogurt sauce and was very tender. I did not care as much for the other vegetarian choices; eggplant in a thick sauce, green beans and mushrooms, and the dal (lentil stew) was in a thick curry sauce instead of the more normal thin texture. I did not sample the desserts but they looked quite authentic. I noticed that of the rest of the patrons half were Anglo and half Indian. The Indian groups eschewed the buffet and ordered from the menu.

The *only* complaint I could possibly have about this place is that they take waaaay too long getting the check to you at the table. The food is great, the staff is very nice. They give you a nice little discount for pick-up orders, too.

I am Indian and have lived in the area for the past 7 yrs. I’ve always really enjoyed Aangan! The service has consistently been good-excellent and the food is very good. Of course, it’s not like eating a homemade indian meal, but that’s pretty unrealistic to expect especially in a non-major metropolitan area without a significant south asian community. The food is far & away MUCH better than Passage to India. I have not tried the new place, Taj Palace, so cannot comment about that. At aangan, I’d highly recommend the Kashmiri Rogan Josh (lamb), Channa batura or the Saag Paneer.

The first time I ate at Aangan 2 years ago, my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We went back a few months ago and things had dramatically changed. Our food was awful, it lacked flavor, and the glass of wine I had ordered had things floating in the bottom of it. The waiter was very slow, and we had to wait for our check for over 20 minutes with a crying baby who wanted to go! The waiter did refund the wine and said we could keep our Entertainment coupon (buy one meal, get one free), but we will definitely not be using the coupon! This restaurant is definitely going downhill.

If you are desi and you want the authentic indian taste this is the wrong place for you, may be good for people trying Indian food for the first time. The good thing about this place is that it has a good service. The food is not indian may be from some different place or country, its very blend.

Aangan is my favorite Indian restaurant in the Harrisburg area. I have tried all of the rest, and nothing beats their friendliness and quality of food. If there is a downside to this restaurant it’s that it is very laid back and service can be slower, but I blame that on our society thinking everything must be rushed.

Aangan has its moments where it’s both wonderful and unsavory at the same time. The service is wonderful and you are never left wanting anything. The food is usually good, but some days not very consistent. As others have stated the buffets are the best way to go, especially if you are unfamiliar with Indian cuisine in general. The bar also tends to be on the expensive side and I wouldn’t plan on having many cocktails here. Overall not bad, but not perfect. Usually we prefer to get take away as someone inevitably brings a child into the restaurant and the pristine silence is broken by the banshee cry of a newborn who is being ignored, but that’s obviously not the fault of the restaurant.

I have eaten at Aangan a couple of times. Both times I have found that the food is fine, but not excellent. Indian cuisine is all about combining spices to make extraordinary flavors - not necessarily spicy heat, but very flavorful. My absolute favorite Indian dish is Saag Paneer (aka Palak Paneer), pureed spinach seasoned with ginger and other spices with pieces of fried homemade cheese, but Aangan’s version was bland. I have tried other dishes there (korma, biryani, masala and tandoori chicken) and found a lack of intensity to the flavors overall. If you love Indian cuisine, this place may disappoint.

Aangan is my favorite indian in the burg. As previous poster said, service is much better than passage. If you not too sure about indian cuisine, try their lunch buffet - its very affordable & you can try a little bit of everything.

Although this place looks pretty shady from the outside, it is actually extremely nice on the inside. Service is great, and the food is really worth trying. Great menu selection, nice bar selection also. I recommend trying this place for something different.

I’m a big fan of Aangan. They have a wonderful lunch buffet. Tuesdays, the buffet is 90% vegetarian. Great service and there’s usually coupons in the Clipper Magazine for buy one entree, get one free. Can’t beat that!
