Had the opportunity to eat at ABC a couple times over the past few months, and I was pleasantly surprised.
First, this turns out to be a great restaurant for kids. The high ceilings and other architecture of the room help swallow up some of the sounds kids inevitabley make. The room was big enough, and the hostess considerate enough to make sure we were seated away from other diners.
Shortly after being seated, our server brought our 3 year old a small plate with crackers, cheese, fresh and dried fruit, etc . . . both times the servers offered to put in orders from the kids menu first.
All of the food that we got was pretty good. There was a pizza that was little more than the crab dip on a crust the first time we were there . . . it was okay, but not spectacular . . . the second time back, it wasn’t on the menu any longer.
Both times the servers were friendly and attentive.
I’ve been going to ABC for years to see live bands . . . now I know the restaurant is worth a shot in its own regard.
The brewery pub is in a unique building. It is one for the few pubs around here with real ( cask conditioned) beer. The others are Market X in Carlisleand Klingers in Hanover. Unfortunately the food does not live up to the building or its excellent beers. Compared to Iron Hill or Lancaster brewing Company I think they come up short. I would love to see their upstairs used as a ‘ gastro pub ‘ as all the places runing sold out beer dinner nights suggest there are people that want restaurant quality food to accompany excellent craft beers. I can understand a place offering frozen Sysco fries but are thy not able to offer real fresh cut fries too, even if at a higher price? Glass Lounge seems to be able to offer fresh cut fries, and the Carsonville Hotel has made their name on this simple dish.
Best beer selection (bottle) in central PA. All Ommegang beers (Hennepin, Abbey, Rare VOS etc), Belgians like St Bernardus, Chouffe and Rochefort 10. Even hard to find beers like Fantom. If you love craft/Belgian beers this is the place for you.
$2 off Belgian beer at the Abbey bar on Wed!!!!! Make sure you have a DD lined up.
The atmosphere and the beer is wonderful. I love the big doors when you walk in! My favorite beer is the Water Gap Wheat which is always on draft and the Hefewiesen which is on draft right now. It is the June specialty beer. The food is hearty pub food with pizazz. This would be a great hang out. The upstairs is a lot of fun on the weekends too. People should use the deck more!! It is so pretty in the summer. They have it full of statues and flowers!!
I went to this brewpub only to try their fine and huge selection of belgian ales. I went thinking that the food would be just regular old bar food. I was wrong. This place has great food. The two times I have been there the service was great also. Try the Crab quesadilla. It’s delicious and pretty big. I also tried the imperial chicken and the chesapeake chicken i think it is called. Both tasted great. Last night I have guisseppi pizza wh ich had carmelized onions, andouille sausage and chicken on it. That tasted great also. If you want to try a beligan beer, and i recommend you do, even if the price is a bit high, try a Chimay Triple(white) or a Delirium Tremens. Be warned though, as a typical belgian ale has twice the amount of alcohol as a typical drink like yuengling, with some of their ales being up in the 10.5% range. This place is a great place and I highly recommend it.
