This is my FAVORITE place in the Harrisburg area. The first time that I took my boyfriend he was a bit scared of “French” dining but as soon as he tried the beef short rib stuffed crepes with frites, he was hooked. He even casually suggested how pleased he would be for takeout crepes when I visited Confit for a Sunday brunch with the girls. The last time we visited, I made a meal of the mussels with chorizo and a salad. The bowl of mussels was so huge that even with a little help from my boyfriend, we still left at least ten in the bowl. While others have suggested spotty service, I’ve always been very pleased with the attention we receive. Plus, with reasonable prices and bringing our own wine, I feel like I’m getting a 4 star meal at a 2 star price. Confit rocks.

one of my favorite restaurants! Dishes I order the most often are the Flat Iron Steak, the Short Ribs and the Mussels. I also enjoy trying any of the specials and salads. I usually go to dinner during the week or to brunch on Sunday. Brunch items are huge portions at reasonable prices (very reasonable compared to some other brunch spots). Confit being BYOB is a definite plus since you have the freedom to compliment your meal without being gouged like some of the downtown spots. (ie. $10 per mimosa is a bit much if you ask me) Service has always been very friendly and competent, although when very busy (at brunch) I have seen the pace slow down considerably. My only real complaint (sorry I’m not that diehard) but I cannot stand the French press coffee… never hot enough and always has grounds in it…give us another option please. Expresso or Cappucino maybe?

I agree with you Ellen. We were there a couple weeks ago. No reservations but they were kind enough to seat us. We ordered and things went along slowly but within tolerances. Then we ordered dessert… A half hour later, nothing. We complained, paid and left. It will be quite a while before we go back. Too bad. Good meal but inconsistent service.

Let me first say, I LOVE this restaurant and think is truly a bright spot in Harrisburg-area dining options. Everything I’ve ever gotten here has been amazing (except for a tuna steak I ordered the last time, which was cooked to medium-well when it was supposed to only be seared). Anyway, my one small complaint is more of a question–what happened to the crepe of the day?? This used to be one of our main reasons for going there and we were sorely disappointed to find that not only have they stopped the crepe of the day, but there are no more daily specials at all on the big blackboard. The reason the crepe of the day special was important to us because it usually put this restaurant into a price-bracket which we could afford to frequent, but without it we can no longer afford to eat here regularly. We just can’t spend $25 to $30 an entree on normal weekend dinners. My advice to Confit–bring back the crepes of the day! They are delicious and chic, and will allow more people to afford to frequent this restaurant on a weekly basis.

Last night we went to Confit, lovely space, excellent menu, we ordered the mussels and steak frites to share, nothing fancy, just really appetizing delicious-sounding food we were ready to love. The mussels met our expectations, heavy on the broth but excellent bread for soaking. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. Our bottle we’d brought with us slowly, ever so slowly emptied, as we waited. We watched food pass by our table on its way to other, more recent people who’d ordered possibly easier options than steak and fries? But what could be easier? Then we had deja vu all over again. This has happened before. Confit is a restaurant that encourages high expectations, with better than average food, but with flawed, inexplicably delayed service. Our third visit to Confit was met with precisely the same result as our other visits. Was it us? Or does this happen to others? They comped us our steak after our second complaint, but it wasn’t about the money, it was about the dashed hopes and unrealized expectations. The food was better than acceptable, really beautifully prepared, not sublime but way beyond acceptable, but what is up with the service?! Or not so much the service, our waitperson was so very sweet and apologetic, but what is happening to make the food take so long? No wonder we eat mostly at home. I expect we’ll try again in due course, but how frustrating, so near and yet, so far.

I have eaten at Confit many times. Some of my favorite dishes are the chicken crepes with mushrooms and mornay,(which i get most often) the quiche is fabulous and the braised short ribs at dinner are out of this world. The service is quick and very friendly. Todd is always my server and he is super. For dessert try the chocolate bouchon, a warm chocolate cake topped with ice cream. It is my favorite restaurant on the West Shore, hands down.

Confit is a small, clean restaurant . Bright yellow walls surround small tables covered in butcher paper.
Entrees range mid 20 to mid 30
Went here for dinner with a rather large group of 14 people. When our organizer called to confirm our reservation today they asked if we could arrive at 7:30 instead of 7. No problem, only a half hour later and we all received an email in plenty of time.
I ordered the mussels francaise for a starter and for $10 you get a nice big bowl of mussels in a delicious wine and mustard broth.
For $8 more it can be unlimited, good deal. Many took advantage of this for dinner.
My husband had the soupe du jour which was a mushroom soup that was very good and had a nice smooth consistency. We couldn’t place what type of mushroom(s) and when we asked our server she could only say they were a forest mushroom.
I also had the salade de maison, which we shared, Bibb lettuce with Roquefort cheese. It was a large salad and was nice.
    Others ordered:
    Pissaladiere Et Tartare
Marinated tuna tartar -On menu: served with warm olive and anchovy flat bread and lemon thyme vinaigrette, but it came with 2 slices of baguette topped with what looked like roasted red peppers or maybe tomato and a fillet of anchovy on each. When I asked how he liked it he said it was “okay”
Grilled flatiron steak with red wine braised shallots, sauteed spinach & french fries came med well instead of med but still got a thumbs up.
    Crepes au poulet forestiere
Roasted chicken & forest mushroom crepes with mornay sauce, I was told was good
Crepes de boeuf Slow braised beef short ribs, very good
Confit de cochon aux spaetzli de normande, Confit pork shank with a ragout or summer herb spaetzle, chorizo sausage, fresh corn, sweet peas, A very rich rustic meal- 2 men ordered this and neither could finish it
I ordered the Poussin provencal roti forestiere
Roasted dijon mustard and herb marinated chicken with a ragout of morel mushrooms and fresh leeks. My luck! they forgot my dinner and everyone was finished by the time it arrived. The sauce was very good, though it was onions and not leeks, it also had some fingerling potatoes, the chicken was very rustic and a bit of a chore to cut, I had to ask for a steak knife.

Our service was not very good. It is a byob and we sat for some time before we had service and had someone to open our wine. We had to ask for water again and again. We were not very well looked after.

I would give it another try. I think the food can be good but many items on the menu seemed awful heavy for a summer menu.
