This restaurant is one of my favorite places to go when we get a sitter! the crab pretzel is awesome and our service is always good! i can’t wait, i’m going tommorrow for a bachelorette party!!!
Mark,
You obviously have not worked in a restaurant long enough. If you did you would see how many times people just like yourself attempt to slip their date a drink. This is why many restaurants in the harrisburg area have adopted this policy.
With that being said Dukes is an incredible restaurant and I encourage anyone in the area to try it out. There isn’t a better place in Harrisburg to enjoy an ice cold draft beer and a savory entree on a warm summer night watching the river roll by Harrisburg cityscape
Mark, just because you and your girlfriend had a little battle with a server over drinking age, it doesn’t mean a thing to me and other readers as far as whether this is a good place to eat.
Every time I have been to Duke’s, the servings have been huge, the food has been good, and the atmosphere has been outstanding.
I don’t know what these people are talking about I went there and had a great time and the service was pretty good considering how busy it was. I’m not inconsiderate. I know when a waiter or waitress is in over their heads so I’m not too hard on them and I don’t try to see how much of their time I can consume. Anywho, my food was good and the atmosphere was really nice.
I agree with the other review. The service is horrible and the food is even worse. The ONLY thing this restaurant has going for it is the outdoor deck.
Dukes.
Well, dont go here.
Food is overpriced.
Service is bad.
If you are not over 21 dont bother going here or taking anyone.
Let me tell you a little story.
I had a group of 10 friends at a table, I arrived late with my girlfriend. Everyone at the table is over 21 and half are enjoying beers. I take my girlfriend to the table, and there is one extra chair, so I pull up one from another table. The waitress tells me that I need to leave that chair at that table in case other people come to sit there. Okay thats great. She doesnt go to get me a chair so we just take it and sit. She comes back to check on everyone and get their food order. Asks my girlfriend who is 20 what she would like to drink. Diet Coke please. Can I see your ID? FOR a diet coke? Well then she proceeds to say its the law, you can not sit at the table with anyone over 21. Now, I, having worked at a bar for 2 years, know the law, and it states that if there is someone 25 or over at the table they can be responsible for up to 20 people under 21. I brought that up to her. She refused to listen, told me she just turned 21 and she knows the law. So unless my girlfriend wanted to sit at a seperate table from all our friends, she could not eat here. Well, we left, horribly enbarassed in front of my peers. I returned the next day, law in hand, only to be told house policy does not allow anyone under 21 to sit with anyone drinking alcohol. EVEN THOUGH, in the several previous times I have been there we never had a problem as long as someone over 25 was also at the table.
forget dukes. please dont bother going there.
Worst dining experience in months. After waiting almost an hour for fish and chips, I was served 4 nasty pieces of extremely greasy nasty previously frozen pathetic excuse for fish. The “chips” were potato wedges that for some very odd reason tasted of rubbing alcohol. The only thing worse than the food itself was the service.
