Here’s another downtown restaurant that started out being very good and over time, went downhill. I visited several times after El Sol first opened and really enjoyed the meal. Last few visits were not so good. Chips tasted like they were fried in old, rancid grease - very stale. The enchiladas that I had ordered in previous visits tasted like they had just come from the freezer to the microwave to the table. Not acceptable for these prices.
From canada and here in town for night stay. And we were looking for maxican place to eat. Was there on Sat’day Nov 24th when referred by this website. Surprised with the resturent. Very good food. Nice set up and good clientale as it is in downtown area. We had a salsa sampler ( as other people suggest). And was good. Also, we had ensalsada el sol. Was goof starter as well. Main dish was (forgot the name) but something really different. It was a pot of maxican clay and have chicken, shrimp, stake etc. in the pot. Trust me, you will see atleast one pot on each table. last, not to forget the taste of margatiras. Very good. Little pricy but ok.
I think we will visit again, if by anychance we drop by the town again.
We called ahead for seating as the restaurant does not take reservations. A small wait does tend to build on the weekends so I do suggest doing this.
Started with the salsa sampler which was excellent. You can taste the freshness in the salsa especially the pico. The margaritas were generous and rich in flavour (I will go out on a limb to say that these are the best margaritas I have had in central PA). I had the carne asada steak wich was little too thin yet quite heavy on flavour. The highlight of the evening was the ceviche which I reccomend as a must. I also sampled from fajitas and mole at our table that were very good.
El sol provides an excellent representation of authentic mexican cuisine in central pennsylvania.
Been here a couple of times. It’s definitely hit-or-miss on the menu items. The table grill items are good, but the fish tacos are terrible as was the red salsa and some of their other sauces and salsas. It’s a little too pricey to be so inconsistent.
Best Mexican food in Harrisburg. Get the salsa sampler.
Margs were OK. When will someone in Harrisburg use fresh strawberries to make a frozen strawberry marg.
Service was OK. Room and decorations were great.
