I was there for lunch tomy day on my was home from th gym. I got their Ruben sandwich and it was to die for!!!!!!! It was the best corn beef I have ever had and thier home made pickles…well if they jared them and sold them I would buy them. I just loved it and it was not expensive, I have spent the same at McD’s for lunch and this was much better
My sister and I decided to go out on my lunch break to Mount Hill Tavern today, since it was a Friday and we wanted to try out a new place fairly close to where I work. The place is very cozy inside with a fireplace and a ‘home’ feeling to it. The server was great, but she took a little while to take our food order.
I ordered the portabello mushroom panini with pesto aioli with a side of fruit, while my sister had a chicken & eggplant sandwich with some enticing crab & corn chowder (served in a small cup w/ a warm bun). We waited over a 1/2 an hour for our sandwiches, but once they came, the food was fresh and the kettle cooked chips were amazing. My sandwich was very pasty like (unpleasant texture for a GRILLED panini) and I did not like the homemade sweet pickles that they garnish the plates with. They had an anise taste to them. Very weird combination.
My sister’s sandwich was served with a whole breast of moist chicken and thinly-sliced eggplant, which is a relief because we expected it to be a thick slice of eggplant like you see served any where else. I tried the soup and it was flavorful, but nothing outstanding.
Once we were finished eating our food, we waited a while for our server to ask if we were done and ready for our check. We asked for her not to box our food and just to bring us a to-go box because that seemed to take her a while with the other tables.
When we received the bill, my sister’s tiny cup of soup was $8! That is a whopping dollar less than the sandwich she ate. We checked with the server to see if she was mistakenly charged for a BOWL of soup, but they only serve one size of soup. I was pretty upset over how they served an “okay” tasting soup with a high-end price!
Overall, the food was okay, but I won’t go there again for lunch for the super slow service and the ridiculous prices for average food. Maybe the dinner service is different, but I’m not about to waste my money to be disappointed again.
Well I am a little angry about this place now. I have been here several times in the past and the food was good, but this restaurant is getting a little hoity-toity. My girlfriends and I sat outside and we usually do separate checks. WELL THEY DO NOT ALLOW SEPARATE CHECKS on the patio and if you forgot a credit card they will not take your personal check even if you live around the corner. Not to mention when we asked the mananger to split up our checks he auto-added 20% gratuity on each of our bills. I myself had no intention on wanting to leave 20% this time, (but was forced to) because our waitor was a pompous @$$ and had an attitude. I am so upset at Mt. Hill Tavern I don’t think I am ever going back, and if I do I’ll give them the same attitude they gave me.
I LOVE THE TAVERN AT MOUNT HILL. IT IS MY RESTAURANT OF CHOICE! THE CRABCAKES ARE THE BEST IN TOWN. THE SALADS,SOUPS AND ENTEES ARE CAREFULLY CHOSEN TO PROVIDE A CREATIVE AND BALANCED UPSCALE MENU AT POPULAR PRICES. WHEN YOU ORDER A SANDWICH AT LUNCHTIME IT IS BEAUTIFULLY PRESENTED AND YOU HAVE A CHOICE OF FRESH FRUIT, CHIPS OR FRIES TO ACCOMPANY IT. I AM PLEASED THAT I CAN MEET FRIENDS THERE OFTEN AND NOT WORRY ABOUT THE COST FOR EACH OF US. THE WAITSTAFF IS PLEASANT AND HELPFUL.I WOULD ENCOURAGE THOSE WHO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH
ANYTHING TO TELL THEIR WAITPERSON. I BET HE OR SHE WILL HELP.
My wife and I went here early in the spring and it seemed quite pleasant. I plan to go back and see if it is consistent as that is a BIG problem with restaurants in the Harrisburg area. One time the food/service is great the next time one or the other is not.
It is unfortunate that illiterates like Joey are permitted to make comments, but it is a free country. In the future Joey keep your story and poor spelling to yourself.
I haven’t been to Mount Hill Tavern yet. I plan to visit. This is more about the Web site in general.
There are three ways to go with reviews here. Only one of them works.
1. You can come on wanting only to say positive things, and apologizing for any fair criticism. That does not work. If everything is good, nothing is differentiated.
2. You can write a negative review and try to gross out everyone with it, JOEY. That does not work. People are coming on wanting to find a place to eat, not to lose their appetite.
3. You can write a balanced review, say if it’s good, say if it’s not so good. It’s the only way this Web site will be what it can be. Not politically correct; not willfully disgusting; just straight.
Joey obviously thought that review was funny..about as funny as this dude wearing $1000 shoes! When you bash a place try using some class Joey or go back to Jersey.
