7 Reviews to “Rock Bass Grill”

My husband and I have been there a number of times with other couples and have had a good experience everytime. The wait staff has always been great and the food very good.

Truly one of the most horrible meals I’ve had out at a restaurant for quite some time. Went with four other people and everyone said their dinner was terrible. The grouper I ordered was dry, overcooked and had absolutely no flavor to it. The side dishes were equally as bad, no flavor to the potatoes and overcooked mushy vegetables. Will definitely never come back to this restaurant and I would advise anyone else not to waste your money here.

From the front of the house to the back, the Rock Bass Grill was a disorganized mess when we visited. The staff was primarily clueless, which is forgiveable. More than a few were apathetic, which is not.
My husband and I went there on a Friday night in March. We called ahead for reservations and were told by an impatient teen hostess that they didn’t accept reservations. Asked whether there was a long wait at that point, she said in an exasperated tone, “I don’t know!” Hmm. We went anyway. When we arrived, the same teen hostess asked if we had reservations. When I explained she’d just told me over the phone they didn’t accept reservations, she and the other two bored-looking teen hosts milling in the lobby all got the slack-jawed “don’t ask me” look. No one apologized for the misunderstanding, though teen-hostess-chick did appear annoyed.
During the half hour we waited for a table, my husband got us (weak) drinks from the bar and were told by the bartender we could add the drinks to our dinner tab — “Just tell your waiter.”
When we told the waiter about the drink tab, he apologetically informed us the bartender wouldn’t let him do that, and we’d have to walk back over to the bar to pay separately. At our urging, the waiter checked the bar anyway and was told no dice. Eventually, my husband gave the poor boy a friendly pep talk: “Listen kid, you just march right back in that bar and show that bartender who’s boss!” It worked, and at least gave us something to chuckle about.
The food was unsatisfactory at best. I had to send back the oysters Rockefeller, which were inedible. I ordered the broiled grouper special, which came with potatoes au gratin. The waiter brought out a huge plate with a small piece of fish plopped on it. The only other thing on the plate was a small side dish of broiled potatoes that some line cook had thrown a glob of shredded cheddar cheese on, then put under the broiler for a minute. The fish was OK, but too expensive. I only ate two bites of the ‘taters. The salad was warm, with wilted lettuce that was past its prime.
At least our waiter was trying, which was more than we could say for the cooks, hostesses and bartenders.
We won’t be going back.

April 13, 2008, this is the second time I have been to their Sunday brunch, the first time was great. Food was forthcoming, hot and well prepared.
This morning however; the eggs were rubbery, the potatoes were harder than the plate, the waitress got the order wrong, the coffee was poor quality, and the toast wasn’t even toasted, and badly buttered. The only salt available was boulder sized.
What happened in a month? I’m afraid to try dinner now.

We ate there the saturday before valentines day. Even though I called ahead and asked if I could make a reservation, they said no but it was not busy and I should have no trouble getting a table, we could not get a non smoking table when we arrived and had to sit in the smokers section even though there were several EMPTY tables in the non smoking section with wonderful views.
The wait staff was polite. The drinks were watery and not worth the $$. The seafood was fresh and tasty but the risotto was HORRIBLE. It had no flavor, was very over cooked and reheated and was just a starchy blob that I ate none of.
I would say they get about a 3 out of 5 overall.
