Recently moved to the East Shore and have been to Sakana on a few occasions. Once we ate in (sushi)…good food and the BYOB is a plus. The eat in service during that visit was fine. We got mostly sushi rolls and all of them were very good.

Most recently, we placed a call for carryout sushi. I made the call at exactly 6:30 and asked for a 7:30 pickup (after kid’s are in bed :)) They told me 7:30 was no problem. I arrived at 7:25. After waiting for 15 minutes for someone to acknowledge that I was standing there, I was informed that “it wasn’t quite ready”. I waited another 15 minutes and was offered a glass of water….”still not quite ready”. By now, it’s 8:00 and still no sushi. Fortunately, I met another poor old soul who had also been waiting for quite some time. He was very discouraged that I had been there for a solid 30 minutes and his order was due up after mine.

Long story short…I walked out of Sakana at exactly 9:00 with my sushi in hand. I was given a 40% discount on my meal, but that didn’t make up for the lost Friday evening date night with my wife.

I have had 6 very positive takeout experiences with Mikado which is actually closer to me than Sakana. The sushi is very similar in quality and I see no need for me to jeopardize my weekend evenings with another takeout order from Sakana.

A friend took me there for my birthday. I love sushi, and he does not. I ordered a sushi sampler, with tuna, salmon, yellowtail, etc. My friend ordered a beef teriyaki entree. Both were excellent.

My problem with hibachi-style restaurants is that I normally find the hibachi food to be bland and uninteresting. That and my clothes smell like cooking grease afterward. I have tried Sakana twice and that was my experience both times. But maybe I’ve been eating on the wrong side of the house. Tim’s review has convinced me to return for the sushi. I am a big fan of the sushi at Miyako/Mitaka, but I’m willing to change loyalties.

I don’t know what I’ll do about the clothing smell, though.

We have eaten here several times. Interior is nice, slightly trendy but not over the top at all. Sakana serves both hibachi style, and regular sushi. Like any hibachi, you meal depends heavily on the chef. Personally, I don’t like it at this or any restaurant, although we’ve had it twice due to company that don’t care for sushi. It was fine.

Our love is sushi, and this is about as good as it gets in Harrisburg, pa. The prices are reasonable, and the sushi is quite good with nice presentation. One tip, white tuna is not listed ala carte, but they do have it and are happy to serve it in nigiri form, otherwise it is in many of the set menu rolls (maki). Some of the rolls are quite original, although we don’t recommend the ESPN roll. Overall, a great place to eat sushi in harrisburg, pa.

I had heard good things about this restaurant in the Patton shopping center off Linglestown Rd. We stopped in for the sushi and after walking into this beautiful new, modern restaurant, it really looked like it could deliver on the hype.

For appetizers, we tasted the tempura vegetables and the beef negamaki which is presented like a sushi roll, but made with sliced beef rolled around green onions and a teriyaki sauce. The veggies were crunchy and just right. I would have liked the beef to be a little more rare.

We ordered 5 rolls to share. The Hot California adds shrimp and spicy sauce to this classic roll. The Vegetables roll was stuffed with several veggies including seaweed and what tasted like caramelized onions. Ichiban roll had 2 large pieces of tuna and yellow tail inside wrapped with soft avocado. The Calamari Roll shared space for salmon in addition to deep fried squid. And finally the Galaxy roll which was a special on the board with spicy tuna, cucumber and rolled in crunchy tempura flakes.

Most of these rolls were $6.95 or less and featured very generous cuts of fish.

I’ll definitely be back and next time with a cold bottle of sake to enjoy at this byob restaurant.

This could very well be the best sushi in the area right now. If you are a sushi fan and have not tried Sakana, you need to go now!

Had Hibachi Shrimp - the shrimp were overcooked and tough, the veggys were also overcooked. The menu says 2 appetizer shrimp but they were just added to the Hibachi Shrimp, menu also said green tea but had to ask for it. It didn’t taste like tea, tasted more like weeds or grass (lawn) soaked in water (ugh). Sorry I asked for it. Onion soup had no taste at all. Ordered ice tea for a beverage which was good but was charged for second glass making this restaurant the only one I know of in Harrisburg that charges for the second glass. And the salad was also not the usual quality, just several leaves of lettuce with a watery orange colored dressing. Will definitely not return to this restaurant.

Another great find in Ha for sushi and fine Japanese dining. The place itself is huge, very grand and elegant looking. The hibachi tables are stone versus wood and the hibachi chefs are awesome at their tricks, some of which I’ve never seen done yet. Sushi selection is great, so are their drink lists. Ask for the strawberry soda which comes in a glass bottle that opens when a round glass ball is pushed by the cap from the mouth of the drink into the neck. Very fun for kids and adults alike. I also especially like their baked mussel dish. The owners are extremely kind and will talk to you personally during your meal. I enjoyed Sakana very much, do visit if you have not.

Sakana hibachi and sushi restaurant has the best sushi I’ve ever had in harrisburg so far. Those specials the sushi chef made(like tuna martini, fluke salad, sakana salad…..etc.) are fantastic that you wanna go back again!!! Strongly recommended to try!!!

Simply the Best Unknown Sushi & Hibachi in the Harrisburg Area. The food is excellent. The staff is very friendly and warm. The atmosphere is very fresh. The wait staff is new, so expect a few errors.
