My boyfriend and I usually get sushi take-out from Miyako on 2nd on Friday nights because we live downtown and it’s convenient. We decided though to go out for sushi for Valentine’s Day and hit up Sapporo East. I was worried we’d find a big crowd waiting but we were seated pretty promptly after waiting behind two other couples. It had been about a year since I was last at Sapporo and I forgot just how fantastic their sushi is. We noticed that ALL of their rolls were stuffed with more fish than the rolls we get at Miyako and for once, we were actually not able to finish all of the rolls that we ordered. The servers were attentive and polite and unlike other places, we didn’t feel rushed to finish or leave. Considering that Sapporro East is also byob (our bill for dinner was a total bargain), I think we’ll have to start making the trek across the river more often!

This place is pretty good, overall quality does fluctuate but not by much. They serve very good cooked dishes in my opinion. Warm rolls are served the right way, cool or cold rolls are a no-no. True sushi is warm rice served with cool piece of fish. Rolls are not sushi. Momiji is their specialty which is obster sushi wrapped around by super white tuna. Their salmon is nice and fatty and (if you ask) you can fatty yellowtail (belly portion).

This place is still my favorite in Central Pa, however I will agree with some of the other posters that the overall quality fluctuates more now than in years past. Henry is the man - no doubt, but he is there less often (tending to the cabniet business I suppose). I too have gotten some warm rolls recently - I guess that’s from using a fresh batch of rice before it cools? The wait staff are very friendly and they have some unadvertised special rolls that rock. Ask for a special shrimp and cocnut roll - you will not be disappointed! Another one is called an Ito roll. Try’em.
